50Local – Kennebunk Maine

IMG_6833.JPG

Just two tap handles at 50Local, pouring Funky Bow Blonde and IPA. Both quite tasty. But the large bottle list is what scored this place a mention on HereForTheBeer.

A farm to table-esque restaurant, they feature ingredients from dozens of local farms which they proudly tout on a chalkboard column in the center of the small space.

Despite what their website says, the $2 Tapas Tuesdays were discontinued for the summer. Along with us, at least 3 other couples at the bar were disappointed to hear that news. Not only because it sounded like a fun way to try a bunch of stuff, but also because the other options were fairly pricey, with apps in the $15 range and entrees averaging around $27. A draft pour of Funky Bow IPA will run you $8 (and come in a shaker glass). This Tuesday was pretty busy, which is probably why the $2 tapas got sh*t canned for the summer. Gotta pay the bills when you can – tourist season.

So, In lieu of the discontinued tapas, we had a couple of burgers. Unfortunately we were delivered someone else’s order (it was one of those days, they were short a food runner – call out in the kitchen…) and they were both delivered well done (who does that to their farm raised meat!!) but the bartender Shane promptly and professionally resolved that issue for us with a smile and a sincere apology, while juggling give other things and even after we genuinely said not to worry about it (seriously – if this guy ever decides to relocate to southern Vermont, there’s a job waiting for him at our place…).

Amy loved her burger (for some reason she believes in fully charring her burgers against all reasonable logic of meat enjoyment) and the Funky Bow made the meal for me. We’ll have to give this place another shot, maybe on an off season Tapas Tuesday next time…
