After an extremely disappointing experience at “Boyds Key West Campground”, we headed back north to the beautiful Point of View RV Resort in Key Largo. Along the way, frustrated by our unexpected change of plans, we decided to stop at the Islamorada Beer Company for some de-stressing. We couldn’t have made a better decision.
The Islamorada Beer Company is located alongside Route 1, in a bright yellow building. We felt immediately welcomed when their bartender Stephanie said “sure no problem” when we asked about parking the Airstream in about 6 of their parking spaces. They even let us bring our dog inside and had a bowl of water for him!
The space contains a small 2BBL brewery, a small merchandise shop and a nice tasting room bar. We ordered a flight to sample the three beers they had on tap, all session ales, which were all quite good and completely appropriate for the area. While sampling we learned that due to some bizarre zoning regulations in the Keys, they are currently unable to brew on site (after further research it looks like no brewery is currently allowed to brew beer in the Florida Keys) but have their beer being brewed on contract until they sort that issue out.
While it’s a small spot and they only have a few of their own beers on draft, they fill out the tap list with some offerings from Cigar City and Darwins. If you’re headed south in the Florida Keys and passing through or planting yourself in Islamorada, be sure to stop in and say hi to Stephanie and the crew at Islamorada Beer Company. The perfect spot to start, or re-start, your de-stressing in the Keys.
