In a sea of 2 for 1 fishbowl sized “margaritas” and buckets of Corona, the Parrot Lounge stands out, much like its colorful namesake. Located a block off of the beach, this more traditional pub is home to the only real craft beer selection we found in Fort Lauderdale.
Drafts from Florida’s Cigar City, Funky Buddha, Three Daughters and Holy Mackerel are served alongside a decent bottle list with favorites like Ten Fiddy and Golden Monkey. We even scored a bottle of this years Bourbon County Coffee Stout on our visit.
A simple pub style menu is available with fried selections, cheesesteaks, peel and eat shrimp and sandwiches. Prices range from $5-15 and the beer prices are also quite reasonable.
The atmosphere is standard sports pub and has plenty of things to do while sampling like shuffleboard, wii, electronic darts and plenty of sports on the many TVs. They also have some sidewalk seating, where they welcome leashed pets (like Thor) and even brought out some water in a dog bowl for him (nice touch!).
While in other areas of the country this might fall into the category of “another beer bar”, when it comes to the Fort Lauderdale “2 for 1 fruity drinks the size of your head” stretch of A1A, the Parrot Lounge stands alone in its down home feel and exceptional craft beer offerings. It’s no surprise they’ve been here since 1970, with service and selection like this, they’re certain to be successful here for years to come.
